Getting crafty with basketry

Over the summer of 2020, in the midst of lock-down madness many people took up a few experimental hobbies. Maybe it was baking banana bread, or experimenting with macrame, or cultivating your very own veggie patch. For some talented folk these boredom induced whims led to discovering real passions and others emerged from lock-down, not with a shame inducing quarantine haircut, but with a new found talent they were able to monetise. In honour of the small businesses that are popping up all over Kent we spoke to Kent indie traders who are on top of their business game and are ready to share their tips and tricks” - Jess Marshall

Accordingly Marianne van Niekerken from Crafty Basketry will be running a series of workshops in the Village Hall where you will not only learn to weave all fundamental, ancient techniques but will also learn about cultivation, preparation, use of materials (willow and hedgerow) and how and where to find and use them and you will have a lovely basket to show for your efforts.

Workshops provides basket weaving for ages 8- 82, complete beginners and those with experience. The aim is to relax and feel the healing qualities of re-wilding - becoming one with nature again; the way we are meant to be. Although basket weaving is strenuous work, you will become aware of the therapeutic benefits of working with head, heart and hands and the importance of body and mind being in sync.

The workshops will run in the Village Hall from 9.30am-5pm and cost £95 (including tea, coffee, cake and fruit). To book please contact Marianne directly via the link to her Facebook page above or by calling 07775 944499
